Kids
I've never had a child, and never wanted to necessarily have children, but between knowing (& loving!) my niece and nephew, and babysitting one of my best friend's kids this week, who's a sweet ham, I've learned why other people do. Their honesty is refreshing. Their untainted souls are inspiring. And their courage to get back up again after a fall is admirable. We could all learn a lot from kids.

Awfully Awesome
Last night, my girls, Carly (from AP) and Briana were rockin' it out with me at our good friend, Larissa Ness' music video party at Speakeasy in Austin (which rocked, btw!).
Briana was kickin' it for a good while with a guy we'll call "S"... a cute guy with a seemingly fun personality. At the end of the night, he gives her his card.
This morning (yes, she crashed at our place) we found the card and read it for the first time in daylight.
I don't know which was worse, the fact that it was someone else's card with all their info scratched out and his scribbled in... with "actor" by his name, OR the fact that on the back was another scribbled message in same handwriting that said, "Fairly Cute... Heidi & phone #."
Oh, S... you're awfully awesome, what can I say. We haven't had that good of a laugh in a while. And no, she won't be calling. :)
But, Heidi on the other hand............ as long as you didn't give her your card.

home
angels come in all forms.
some take longer to arrive
but they're always there.
an absolute.
when faced with the question...
ask, "why not...
do a good deed?"
extend happiness. make music.
turn your tears into fierce love
that's redirected,
manifested
into an indescribable beauty
called home. because home is
where family lives.

Peeks
Woke up to the sound of our neighborhood peacock this morning, Peeks. Yes, we have one! Only in Austin! ;) The word is that he's around 20 years old -- very over the top for a peacock. However, he's kinda had an original life, so it doesn't surprise me. He's not in captivity... he stays by choice, so I assume it's a low-stress environment for him. However, I don't know if he's ever had a mate, because I don't know where he came from or how he got here.
I went out to feed him and met my neighbor, Donna, in our yard. All Peeks has to do is call out once, and we all come a running!
Of course Shad opened the window and played loud Peacock noises from his computer... which sent Peeks up on the roof of my other neighbor, Denis' house -- looking for the other peacock!!! So sad.
About 6 months ago, Peeks spoiled me by coming to visit almost every day. Then he kinda disappeared on me (us) and had us wondering if something bad had happened. Cue depressed face. I couldn't think about it. But I went for a walk this weekend, looking for him, and on my way home I heard him call out... my heart was relieved -- lifted.
Now today, is it any surprise he'd turn up on my lawn again? I think the universe knew I needed an old friend, and sent him back my way. In fact, I've been sent two this week - one of my best friends is in town with her family (and their RV!!!) and now Peeks. Life is good. Sure, Peeks can't speak English, but it's a universal language kinda thing. :)
